uAvionix skyEcho portable ADS-B transceiver now available in New Zealand

4 May 2022 - uAvionix Corporation today announced that the skyEcho portable ADS-B transceiver is now available for the New Zealand General Aviation market for use in uncontrolled airspace as an ADS-B awareness or Electronic Conspicuity device. skyEcho can be used by general aviation aircraft to enhance their visibility and increase situational awareness through ADS-B OUT and IN.

skyEcho is the world’s only commercially available portable ADS-B IN and OUT system. Complete with integrated TSO certified SBAS GPS and barometric altimeter, it transmits aircraft location, altitude, and identification via 1090MHz ADS-B, enabling the device to be seen by nearby aircraft equipped with an ADS-B receiver. Through its embedded ADS-B receiver, pilots can visualize nearby traffic on their favorite Electronic Flight Bag application via a Wi-Fi connection.

Originally released in the UK market, skyEcho has seen widespread adoption in Australia and the UK, where it has brought the safety benefits of ADS-B to the general cockpit in uncontrolled airspace without the high cost of installation. Advisory Circular AC43-14 from Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand now allows for the use of these devices through published standards for its use and installation. uAvionix recently obtained an STC for tailBeaconX, its certified Mode S / ADS-B taillight transponder that meets requirements as set in rule 91.257 and is compliant for operations in controlled airspace.

Christian Ramsey, President uAvionix said “We are excited to add New Zealand to the list of countries where skyEcho can be used to enhance safety, with increasing airspace complexity and unmanned systems increasingly equipping with ADS-B receivers as a Detect and Avoid (DAA) technology – electronic conspicuity devices such as skyEcho are becoming a vital part of the solution for the safe integration of manned and unmanned aircraft and air to air safety”.

SkyEcho is immediately available in New Zealand through uAvionix resellers.
